Anti-wrinkle injections utilise Botulinum Toxin Type A, a highly purified, regulated neuromodulator protein. When precisely micro-injected into a targeted muscle group, it acts as a highly selective local muscle relaxant.

On a cellular level, the neurotoxin binds to the presynaptic nerve endings and temporarily disrupts the SNARE protein complex. This action prevents the nerve from releasing acetylcholine (ACH)—the chemical neurotransmitter responsible for commanding that specific muscle to contract. Without acetylcholine signalling, the overlying muscle tissue relaxes. This directly smooths out dynamic kinetic lines (wrinkles formed during facial expressions) while allowing the skin matrix time to repair its structural creases.

Massaging the area or putting heavy lateral pressure on your face can push the fluid into adjacent, non-targeted muscle groups—such as the levator palpebrae superioris—which can result in a temporary droop of the upper eyelid (ptosis).
