Sofwave™ represents the next generation of non-invasive tissue lifting, powered by proprietary SUPERB™ (Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam) technology. Older micro-focused ultrasound systems emit high-energy acoustic waves that converge into tiny, deep focal points. If misapplied, this can lead to excruciating procedural pain and a risk of accidental subcutaneous fat melting, causing facial volume loss.

Sofwave™ eliminates these risks entirely by emitting seven unique, parallel ultrasound cylinders simultaneously. Instead of penetrating unpredictably into the fat layers, it concentrates its energy strictly within the mid-dermis at an exact depth of 1.5mm. This creates controlled, fractional thermal zones that maximise skin tightening and structural lifting while preserving your natural facial volume.

For the vast majority of our patients at our Nottingham clinic, a single foundational session is all that is required to trigger dramatic tissue contraction. Because Sofwave™ heats the mid-dermis to an optimal temperature of 60–70°C, it immediately denatures old, stretched collagen networks, producing a subtle, instant tightening effect.

However, your ultimate structural lifting, brow elevation, and jawline definition unfold progressively over 3 to 6 months. This aligns with the natural biological timeline required for your skin to undergo full neocollagenesis (the synthesis of new Type I and Type III collagen fibers) and elastogenesis (the production of fresh elastin networks).

While Sofwave™ delivers intense thermal energy to the deep layers of the skin, the treatment is highly tolerable. To ensure absolute patient comfort, we apply a medical-strength topical numbing cream to the treatment zone for 45 minutes prior to your session.

Additionally, the Sofwave™ handpiece incorporates an advanced SofCool™ integrated cooling mechanism. This technology maintains a constant chilled temperature on the outer surface of your skin (the epidermis), protecting the surface layers throughout the delivery of the ultrasound beams. You may feel a warm, deep prickling or tapping sensation during each 3-to-4-second acoustic cycle, but it is not painful.

One of the most significant clinical benefits of Sofwave™ is that it carries zero social or cosmetic downtime. Because the ultrasound energy bypasses the outer layer of the skin entirely to work within the mid-dermis, there is no peeling, blistering, or skin breakage.

You may experience a mild, transient pinkness or subtle warmth in the treated area immediately following the session—resembling a very light workout flush—but this typically subsides within 1 to 2 hours. You can apply makeup, resume your standard professional responsibilities, and return to your evening routine immediately after leaving our Mapperley clinic.
