Temple hollowing—often referred to as facial "skeletalization"—is a classic sign of upper-face aging. As we age, we naturally experience deep temporal fat pad atrophy, skin thinning, and a gradual resorption of the underlying skull bone. This creates a concave, sunken appearance at the sides of the forehead, which can make the upper face look gaunt and cause the tail of the eyebrow to drop. At our doctor-led Nottingham clinic, we treat this by placing premium hyaluronic acid fillers deep within the temporal fossa. This replaces the lost structural cushioning, popping the hollow area back out to restore a smooth, youthful, and healthy oval silhouette to the upper face.

Yes, this is one of the most appreciated hidden benefits of temple rejuvenation. When the temporal fat pad loses its volume, the skin over the outer upper face loses its tension and drapes downward, exacerbating hooded eyelids and dropping the outer corner of the brow. By restoring structural volume to the temples, we re-tension the lateral orbital skin layer. Social downtime is virtually non-existent, and you can resume most daily activities immediately. However, because the temporal fossa sits directly over the temporalis muscle—which controls your jaw movement—it is completely normal to experience a dull, mild ache or a sensation of tight pressure when chewing or opening your mouth wide for 2 to 5 days after treatment. This is simply the muscle adjusting to the structural filler beneath it. It is easily managed with standard paracetamol and resolves quickly.
