Sculptra® is an advanced, injectable biostimulator composed of Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic polymer. Unlike traditional dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid—which work instantly by placing a mechanical gel to plump a specific fold or wrinkle—Sculptra® provides zero permanent synthetic volume. Instead, it targets the underlying causes of facial ageing. Once micro-injected into the deep structural layers, the PLLA microparticles act as a biological scaffold. This triggers fibroblast mechanoreceptor activation, forcing your body to naturally synthesise a dense matrix of new Type I and Type III collagen, gradually restoring youthful volume and structural framework from within.

Sculptra® is uniquely engineered for global facial rejuvenation and structural reshaping rather than isolated line-filling. It is exceptionally effective for treating deep structural fat pad degradation and skeletal volume loss. At our doctor-led Nottingham clinic, we strategically utilise Sculptra® to lift hollow temples, restore deflated cheeks, soften deep nasolabial folds (smile lines), smooth out marionette lines, and structurally redefine a sagging or lax jawline. Because Sculptra® relies on authentic, gradual cellular regeneration rather than an immediate artificial fix, results manifest in stages. Typically, a foundational course consists of 2 to 3 treatment sessions, spaced roughly 4 to 6 weeks apart. Immediately post-injection, your face will look beautifully plumped due to the sterile water used to suspend the PLLA; however, this fluid is fully absorbed by the body within a few days, temporarily bringing you back to your baseline appearance. Do not be discouraged—this is entirely normal. Your true, long-lasting transformation develops dynamically over 3 to 6 months as your new collagen networks mature, providing a completely natural lift.

One of the greatest clinical advantages of Sculptra® over standard dermal fillers is its exceptional longevity. While traditional hyaluronic acid fillers generally degrade within 6 to 12 months in high-movement areas, the natural, structural collagen matrix generated by Sculptra® is highly stable. The rejuvenating, firming, and volumising effects are clinically proven to last for up to 2 years, and often longer. To beautifully preserve your cellular rejuvenation and counter ongoing biological ageing, a single maintenance treatment is generally recommended once every 12 to 18 months.

After a Sculptra® treatment, patient compliance with aftercare is essential to guarantee a smooth, flawless, and uniform result. We instruct all patients to follow the strict 5-5-5 massage rule: you must firmly massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for the first 5 consecutive days post-procedure. This mandatory massage routine ensures the Poly-L-Lactic Acid microparticles remain perfectly and evenly distributed throughout your tissue layers, preventing them from clustering together and completely eliminating the risk of forming beneath-the-skin nodules or papules.

You will notice a visible reduction in hair density and slower growth after your very first session. However, because hair grows in asynchronous cycles (anagen, catagen, and telogen), the treatment can only destroy follicles actively growing hair during your appointment. To achieve permanent hair reduction across the entire target area, we recommend a complete course of 6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

To ensure a safe and effective session, you must cleanly shave the treatment area 24 hours before your appointment—do not wax, pluck, or thread, as the root must remain intact for the BBL energy to target. Additionally, avoid direct sun exposure, sun beds, and fake tan on the treated area for at least 2 weeks prior to your visit. Always notify our team if you have started any new photosensitising medications since your initial consultation.
