Dark Circle Under Eyes

YOUR BEAUTY DOCTOR - NOTTINGHAM

Dark circles can make your eyes look tired even when you are feeling well. The cause is not always a lack of sleep, and the same treatment will not suit every darker under-eye area.

At Your Beauty Doctor in Mapperley, Nottingham, we look at colour, skin quality, hollows and puffiness together. Understanding the cause helps us explain what may improve and where treatment has limits.

You do not need to change the way you look to ask for advice!

What are dark circles

Dark circles describe a darker appearance beneath the eyes. They may look brown, blue, purple or shadowed, and more than one factor can contribute at the same time.

Pigmentation changes the colour of the skin. Thin skin can allow underlying vessels to show through, while a hollow or protruding bag can cast a shadow. These are different mechanisms, even if the result looks similar in the mirror.

What causes dark circles under eyes

CAUSES

Pigmentation

Inherited pigmentation, sun exposure and irritation can contribute to darker skin. Rubbing, eczema or reactions to products may play a role, so skin symptoms matter during assessment.

Skin and Visible vessels

The lower-eyelid skin is delicate. In some people, underlying vessels are more visible through it, creating a blue or purple appearance rather than a purely brown patch.

Hollow and Puffiness

The eyelid-cheek contour can create shadows. Fatigue may make these more noticeable, but longstanding anatomy does not necessarily change after a better night’s sleep. Allergies or persistent eyelid swelling may also need medical advice.

Can Home care Help?

WHAT MAY HELP

A consistent sleep routine, gentle skincare and suitable sun protection can support the area. Avoid rubbing and products that cause irritation. If allergies or eczema are contributing, addressing them may matter more than an aesthetic procedure.

ITS LIMITATIONS

Concealer can reduce the appearance temporarily. Strong brightening products, peels or devices should not be used close to the eyes without appropriate advice. New persistent swelling, a marked one-sided change, pain or visual symptoms needs medical assessment.

Dark Circle Treatment options in Nottingham

TREATMENT OPTIONS

Tear Trough Filler

Filler may be discussed where a true hollow is responsible for part of the darkness and you are a suitable candidate. It does not remove pigment or correct every vascular cause. Bags or a tendency to swelling may make it inappropriate.

Polynucleotides or Sunekos for selected skin concerns

The clinic offers these options for selected skin-quality concerns. They may be discussed when fine crepiness or delicate under-eye skin contributes. The evidence and suitability vary with the product and concern, and a colour change or complete clearance cannot be promised.

Individual skincare and medical advice

Pigment or irritation needs its own assessment and an eye-area-appropriate plan. We do not assume that general facial pigmentation treatments are suitable directly beneath the eyes.

Choosing the right approach for you

We consider the colour, contour and skin together, and ask about allergies, rubbing, sleep, medications and previous treatment. Some dark circles have several contributing factors.

A hollow-related shadow may respond to a different approach from brown pigmentation or blue-toned darkness. It is important not to use filler as a general answer to all dark circles. Where there is an active skin or eye condition, appropriate medical care comes first.

DOCTOR’S ADVICE

Dr. Jess Advice on Dark Circle Under Eyes

“Dark circles are a description of what you see, rather than a single diagnosis. The most useful first step is to work out whether the darkness comes mainly from colour, a hollow, visible vessels or swelling. It is easy to choose a treatment because it helped someone else, but their cause may be different from yours. Filler is only relevant to selected hollow-related shadows and can be the wrong choice where puffiness is present. Skin-quality treatments also have limits and should not be described as removing all darkness. A realistic plan may improve one part of the concern while another remains. Honest advice about that is more useful than promising completely bright under-eyes.“

WHAT TO EXPECT

Your patient journey at Your Beauty Doctor

STEP 1

Identify Contributing Factors

We discuss the history of the darkness and assess pigment, skin, hollows and swelling. Eye symptoms, allergies and earlier filler are important to mention.

STEP 2

Choosing a focused plan

We explain what may improve, what may remain and whether medical or dermatological advice is needed. Costs, risks and alternatives are discussed.

Treatment and Aftercare

STEP 3

If an aesthetic option is suitable and you choose it, preparation and aftercare are explained. You may instead start with skin care or treatment of irritation.

STEP 4

Reviewing the proportion

We reassess after the appropriate interval, recognising that colour and contour may respond differently. Further treatment is considered only if it has a clear purpose.

What results can you expect?

Improvement is often partial. A plan may soften a structural shadow or improve an aspect of skin quality without removing all colour. Natural anatomy and inherited pigment may remain visible.

The time needed depends on the selected option, and skin-quality approaches may require a course. Under-eye injections can cause bruising, swelling and other complications; filler carries rare serious vascular and visual risks. Before-and-after images should identify which aspect was treated rather than imply a cure for every cause of dark circles.
