You do not need to change the way you look to ask for advice!
Understanding thin lips and volume loss
Thin lips describe a naturally smaller lip volume or a reduction in fullness over time. This may affect the upper lip, lower lip or both. A less distinct lip border can make the change more noticeable.
Lip shape is individual, and thinner lips are not a medical problem. Loss of volume is also different from chapped lips, a temporary dry appearance or fine lines in the surrounding skin.
What causes Thin lips and Loss of lip volume
CAUSES
Natural Lip Shape
Genetics and the way the lips relate to the teeth and facial structure influence their size. There is no single ratio that everyone needs to match.
Age Related Changes
Changes in soft tissue and support can reduce fullness, flatten the lip border or make the lip appear to turn inwards. Fine lines may also develop nearby.
Dryness and irritation
Dryness can make lips look less smooth, although it does not necessarily mean structural volume has been lost. Persistent soreness, cracking or a changing lesion needs appropriate medical care rather than cosmetic enhancement.
Can Home care Help?
WHAT MAY HELP
A bland lip balm and suitable sun protection may improve dryness and comfort. Avoid products that repeatedly sting or inflame the lips. Temporary plumping glosses do not provide lasting structural volume and can irritate sensitive skin.
ITS LIMITATIONS
Home care will not reliably enlarge naturally thin lips or restore an age-related volume deficit. If dryness is your main concern, treating that first can help clarify whether you still want an aesthetic change.
Thin lips Treatment Options in Nottingham
TREATMENT OPTIONS
Lip filler
For suitable adults, hyaluronic acid filler may add measured volume, refine the border or improve selected asymmetry. The clinic’s lip treatment is tailored to anatomy and the change you want.
A conservative plan may be more appropriate than a large increase. The result should respect your lips at rest and during movement. Filler does not make every shape achievable.
Skin and Lip Care
We can discuss suitable care for dryness and the surrounding skin. Persistent inflammation should be addressed before an injectable procedure.
Assessment of Lip Lines
If your priority is vertical creases around the mouth rather than lip size, the plan may focus on perioral support or skin quality. These are related concerns, but adding volume inside the lips is not automatically the answer.
Choosing the right approach for you
We look at your lips from the front and side, at rest and during movement. We discuss whether you want volume, definition, balance between the lips or simply a softer border.
The amount of product is chosen after assessment, rather than from a fixed image or a requested syringe size. Previous filler, cold sores and medical history matter. If a significant increase would not suit your tissue or goals, we will explain why a smaller or staged change is preferable.
DOCTOR’S ADVICE
Dr. Jess Advice on Hollow Cheeks
“A good lip consultation starts with what you would like to change, not how many millilitres you want. Thin lips can be completely natural, and there is no universal shape that should be imposed on every face. Sometimes the priority is definition rather than size; sometimes a small amount of volume is enough. It is helpful to discuss your side profile and how your lips move, as well as their appearance in a still photograph. Previous filler and any history of cold sores also need considering. A gradual plan allows room to assess the change. There should be no pressure to make the lips larger than you feel comfortable with.“

WHAT TO EXPECT
Your patient journey at Your Beauty Doctor
STEP 1
Talking about your goal
We ask whether you want a subtle volume change, a more defined border or help with age-related changes. We review your health and previous filler.
STEP 2
Planning a proportionate result
We explain what your anatomy allows, discuss risk and recovery, and agree the cost. There is time to consider the advice before deciding.
Treatment and Aftercare
STEP 3
If you proceed, comfort measures and preparation are explained. You receive instructions for the immediate recovery and a way to contact the clinic if concerned.
STEP 4
Assessing the settled appearance
We reassess after settling or gradual development, depending on the option. Further volume is not added simply because one photograph still shows a shadow.
What results can you expect?
Lip filler may give fuller or more defined lips in suitable patients, but the final shape is constrained by your natural anatomy. Swelling can make the first appearance seem larger or uneven.
Bruising, tenderness and lumps are possible, along with infection, migration and rare vascular complications. An unexpected change in skin colour, unusual increasing pain or any visual symptom after filler needs urgent medical advice. Results are not permanent, and further treatment should follow assessment rather than a routine top-up.

A small change may be possible, depending on your tissue and proportions. We discuss what looks realistic for your own lips rather than copy another person’s shape.

No. The amount should follow assessment and your goals. You can explain the change you want without selecting a syringe size.
-
It may help selected volume or border concerns, but the way your lips move and the support beneath them also matter.
-
It may improve some asymmetry, but normal differences remain and perfect symmetry is not guaranteed. The cause should be assessed before treatment.
-
It can be considered for suitable perioral concerns, but improving lip volume and softening surrounding creases are different goals and may need different placement.
-
No. Swelling can temporarily change size and symmetry. Follow the clinic’s advice and allow the appropriate settling period before judging the outcome.
-
Tell the doctor about your history before booking a procedure. It may influence timing and any precautionary advice.
-
Have the area assessed before adding more. Further volume may worsen the appearance, and the existing filler may need a separate management plan.
