CONCERNS
Crepey Skin / Dehydrated
YOUR BEAUTY DOCTOR - NOTTINGHAM
Skin that feels tight, looks finely crinkled or makes makeup sit unevenly can be frustrating, particularly when you are already using a moisturiser. Sometimes the issue is dryness; sometimes a change in skin structure is involved as well.
At Your Beauty Doctor in Mapperley, Nottingham, we look at hydration, sensitivity and texture together. The aim is comfortable, healthier-looking skin and a plan that suits what it actually needs.
You do not need to change the way you look to ask for advice!
What is a Crepey Skin?
Crepey skin describes a fine, crinkled texture, often with reduced elasticity. The two can overlap, but they are not interchangeable diagnoses.
Dryness can temporarily highlight lines. Established crepiness can also reflect age-related or sun-related changes in the skin, particularly on the neck, chest, face or hands. Oily skin can still feel dehydrated or irritated.
What causes crepey skin
CAUSES
Stressed Skin Barrier
Harsh cleansing, frequent exfoliation and products that irritate can interfere with the skin's protective barrier. Water loss and sensitivity may then make the surface feel tight or uncomfortable.
Weather and Environment
Cold weather, low humidity and indoor heating can make dryness more noticeable. Long hot showers can also leave skin feeling drier.
Ageing and Sun Exposure
Changes in skin elasticity can produce fine crepiness that moisturiser alone does not correct. Persistent itch, inflammation or scaling may instead indicate a skin condition that deserves medical care.
Can Home care Help?
WHAT MAY HELP
Start with a gentle cleanser, a moisturiser your skin tolerates and suitable sun protection. Simplifying an overloaded routine can help more than adding another exfoliating product. Adequate fluid intake supports health, but drinking extra water is not a guaranteed treatment for crepey skin.
ITS LIMITATIONS
Moisturiser can improve surface dryness and the appearance of fine dehydration lines. It does not reliably replace lost facial volume or remove substantial loose skin. Seek advice for persistent cracking, itch, rash or a sudden widespread change.
Crepey Skin Treatment options in Nottingham
TREATMENT OPTIONS
Skin Care
We can review what you use and help build a manageable routine. The priority may be barrier support before any procedure. More active ingredients are not automatically better for sensitive skin.
Skinpen
Where established fine texture is important and the skin is suitable, SkinPen microneedling may be discussed. It is not the starting point for an actively inflamed or damaged skin barrier.
Skin Boosters / Profhilo
Selected injectable treatments may be considered for hydration and fine skin texture. The product, treatment area and plan are chosen after assessment. They have a different purpose from structural filler and should not be presented as removing loose skin.

Choosing the right approach for you
We ask whether the change is mainly a feeling of tightness, visible flaking, fine wrinkles or reduced firmness. Your current products, sensitivity, medical history and previous treatments matter.
A simple skincare adjustment may be enough for dehydration. A procedure may be considered for a persistent texture concern once the skin is stable. We explain the difference between skin quality, laxity and volume loss so that the plan addresses the right problem.
DOCTOR’S ADVICE
Dr. Jess Advice on Crepey Skin
“When skin looks crepey, it is tempting to assume that it needs an injectable treatment straight away. I would first check whether the skin is dry, irritated or being asked to tolerate too many products. Improving comfort and the skin barrier can make a meaningful difference. Fine crinkling linked to reduced elasticity is a separate issue and may need different expectations. Skin boosters can have a role for selected patients, but they are not a replacement for every aspect of ageing skin. The right starting point is often a simpler routine and a clear assessment of what is temporary and what reflects a more established change in texture.”

WHAT TO EXPECT
Your patient journey at Your Beauty Doctor
STEP 1
Reviewing Skin and Routine
We assess hydration, texture and sensitivity and ask about cleansing, active ingredients and any persistent skin symptoms.
STEP 2
Choosing a starting point
We explain whether skincare alone is appropriate or whether a procedure may help a specific remaining concern, including risks and costs.
Treatment and Skin support
STEP 3
If you proceed, preparation and aftercare are matched to your skin and the selected treatment. Irritated skin may need time to settle first.
STEP 4
Reviewing comfort and texture
We assess changes in skin comfort as well as appearance. Further sessions or maintenance depend on your response.
What results can you expect?
Dryness-related tightness and fine lines may improve with a suitable routine. More established crepiness can be slower to change, and complete smoothing is not a realistic promise.
Injectable treatments can cause small bumps, bruising, swelling or infection. Microneedling can cause temporary redness and carries risks including pigment change and infection. We explain the procedure-specific risks and recovery, with time to consider whether the likely improvement is worthwhile.

Frequently Asked Questions about Crepey skin
Top Before / Bottom: After
-
Yes. Oil on the surface does not guarantee adequate moisture or a healthy skin barrier. A harsh oil-control routine may also cause irritation.
-
The product may not suit your skin, your cleanser may be too harsh or a skin condition may be contributing. Persistent discomfort deserves a review rather than repeated product layering.
-
Not reliably. Staying adequately hydrated supports health, but crepiness can involve elasticity changes that extra water will not reverse.
-
No. Their purpose and formulation differ. Skin boosters focus on selected skin-quality concerns; structural fillers are used for particular contour or volume goals.
-
It may need to be postponed. Active inflammation, infection or a damaged barrier can change suitability and recovery.
-
Yes. These areas can show fine crepiness and sun-related changes. Treatment choice and preparation must suit the specific area.
-
A skincare response and a procedure response have different timelines. Hydration may improve before established texture changes; your plan should explain what to assess and when.
-
Usually not. A consistent, tolerable routine is often more useful than frequent changes or multiple strong products used together.
