Can BBL Help Acne? Everything You Need to Know About Forever Clear®

For those who struggle with persistent acne, it can feel like a mission to find the right products and treatments. High street beauty serums promise freedom from redness and texture, but many of them simply don't do enough.

That's why, at Your Beauty Doctor, we offer treatments designed to help with acne by tackling the root issue.

What Causes Acne?

Acne is a complicated skin issue. It can be caused by a number of things, including:

  • excess sebum (oil) production

  • clogged hair follicles

  • bacteria

  • inflammation

Acne can also be triggered and worsened by the body's hormones, certain medications, our diets, and stress.

What Is BBL?

Broadband light therapy (BBL) is a pulsed light treatment that can improve the skin's appearance and texture.

It can reduce the appearance of:

  • brown spots

  • age spots

  • melasma

  • freckles

  • rosacea

  • spider veins

  • acne

BBL works by targeting the blood vessels responsible for redness and can enhance the skin's firmness, pigmentation and even elasticity.

Alongside other treatments, BBL can make a visible, measurable difference to the appearance of your skin over a course of treatments.

What Is BBL ForeverClear?

BBL ForeverClear is a BBL treatment that uses two different wavelengths of light. The skin is first treated with a blue light at a specific wavelength (420 nm) to target bacteria, and is then treated with a yellow light (560 nm) to address any redness left behind.

The blue BBL light eliminates acne-causing bacteria, even from deep within the facial pores. The yellow BBL light then works to reduce inflammation, evening the skin tone.

Is BBL ForeverClear An Option For You?

If you're suffering from recurring acne breakouts, Forever Clear is often the treatment I reach for first. Gentle and non-invasive, it is a genuinely useful treatment for working towards a clearer complexion.

At our Nottingham clinic, we recommendForever Clear BBL for patients who have active acne breakouts and have found that topical treatments simply aren't doing enough. It's also a good treatment for anyone who wants to manage congested skin and redness without medication.

When Forever Clear Isn't The Right Call

I'd rather tell you this up front. Forever Clear is not the answer for everyone.

  • If your breakouts are cyclical and hormonal, light therapy won't reach the driver. It will calm the inflammation and clear bacteria, but you'll need medical management alongside it  and that conversation belongs in a consultation, not on a treatment list.

  • If your main concern is old scarring rather than active spots,SkinPen microneedling orpolynucleotides will do more for you than Forever Clear.

  • If you have a deeper skin tone, we take more care with light-based treatments and may recommend a different route. Your suitability is assessed at yourdigital skin analysis.

  • If you can't commit to daily SPF for a fortnight afterwards, wait for a quieter month. The aftercare is not optional.

What To Expect With BBL ForeverClear

When you book a consultation for BBL ForeverClear, our experienced skin therapists first check that you're a good fit for the treatment. If, for any reason, it's not an option, we'll work together to find you an alternative and we'll plan out your sessions.

After your session, you should notice a reduction in redness and inflammation within one to three days, and by the second week most patients see clearer skin.

Once you've had a few sessions, you'll see a progressive improvement in your skin's texture and tone, and a reduction in scarring.

We recommend a minimum of four treatments over two to four weeks for the best results, once or twice weekly.

What Other Treatments May Be Recommended For Acne?

Forever Clear is a strong option for ongoing acne. It isn't the only one. At Your Beauty Doctor, we know that every patient is different, and there is no single treatment that suits everyone.

We can also offer:

When you have a consultation, our team will determine the best course of action to get your skin in the best condition possible.

Frequently Asked Questions About SkinPen Aftercare

Where Can BBL ForeverClear Be Used?

One of the benefits of BBL ForeverClear is that it can be used almost anywhere you have acne that needs treating: face, neck, chest, back and shoulders. During your consultation we'll map which areas are worth treating and in what order, since treating the back and chest takes longer than the face alone and may change how we schedule your course.

How Long Does BBL ForeverClear Take?

BBL ForeverClear is a quick treatment, with each session taking 15 to 30 minutes. Exactly how long the session takes depends on the size of the treatment area. How many sessions you'll need varies from patient to patient, but we always suggest a minimum of four. Meaningful improvements can be made with a course of Forever Clear, followed by routine maintenance to keep the skin clear and smooth.

Does BBL ForeverClear Hurt?

BBL ForeverClear is a gentle, non-invasive pulsed light therapy. Most patients find it comfortable, reporting a warm tingling sensation as the light passes over the skin rather than pain. If you're anxious about it, tell us at consultation  we can do a small test area first so you know what the sensation is like before committing to a full session.

What Is The Recovery Time With BBL ForeverClear?

There is no downtime following the treatment, and the majority of patients can wear makeup and resume normal activities within 24 hours. It is important, however, to wear a broad-spectrum SPF afterwards, and to avoid any length of time in direct sunlight for the first 14 days following treatment. That means wide-brimmed hats and sun-protective clothing to keep the skin safe from UV. This part is not negotiable  sun exposure on freshly treated skin risks pigmentation.

Is BBL ForeverClear Suitable For All Skin Types?

BBL ForeverClear is gentle and suits many skin types, including sensitive skin. It is worth being honest that the treatment works best on lighter to medium skin tones. If you have a deeper skin tone we take more care with light-based treatments and may recommend a different route entirely. When you book a consultation at our Nottingham clinic, your skin will be properly assessed for suitability before anything is booked in.

Does BBL ForeverClear Work On Hormonal Acne?

Not on its own. Forever Clear can't target the hormonal driver behind cyclical breakouts. It can reduce the inflammatory response, clear bacteria and improve post-acne marks, which is worth having. But to properly tackle hormonal acne, medical management is needed alongside skin treatments. If that's your pattern, I'll tell you at consultation rather than sell you a course that treats only the surface.

Are There Side Effects?

After treatment, some people notice redness and warmth in the treated area, which should fade within a few hours. Some patients also notice dryness and light swelling, and these should be brief too. Anything that persists beyond a couple of days is worth a phone call to the clinic  it's almost always straightforward, but we'd rather see you than have you wonder.
